The Last Last Last Last Last Last Supper

I used to think that the Last Supper took place the day before Good Friday, but I have been reliably informed by my colleague @holycharlie that it actually takes place on Wednesday. But seeing as the rest of you are likely as theologically misinformed as I am that I should point out my ridiculously large (though not complete) collection of pop culture Last Supper parodies and the Last Supper tag. They're sacrilicious!

I Tawt I Taw An Angry Bird

Daffy is already insane and Tweety Bird is clearly repressing a lot of anger. I can forgive the inclusion of Woody Woodpecker to fill out the line up, even though he's not a Looney Tunes. (Angry Birds meets Looney Tunes Birds by Olechka via Gamefreaks)

Wabbit Season

This is not the Elmer Fudd you remember. Too many times was he humiliated by a smug rabbit and a crazy duck that he finally snapped. Now its hunting season again. Be vewy... vewy... quiet. (From artist Beanjamish via The Zeray Gazette)

The Cartoons Aren't Alright

I always suspected Tootown wasn't so much a sanctuary as a sanitarium. Funny to watch, though. (Via The Zeray Gazette and Accordion Guy.)

If He Catches You, You're Through

Road Runner, the coyote's after you. And if you catch him, you're through, Carnivorous depresius.

Anyone know where this image is from? I've been scouring the interwebs trying to source it, but to no avail. It has the look of Family Guy, but doesn't appear to be. I found it on Nick McGlynn, but there was no attribution.

This is something I'm noticing a lot of tumble blogs — they often have cool designs and cool finds, but they are often a little lax about the giving credit, beyond the site they first found it on, which drives me crazy. I know I'm not creating anything original here, but I love sharing what I find and telling others where to find more.

But I'm not down on the tumble blogs and I've created a Popped Culture Tumblr and a Popped Culture Soup, should those be the kinda places you want to read what I've got to offer.

Once again a controversy has erupted over a pop culture depiction of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. Artist Glen Tarnowski's Looney Tunes Last Supper, entitled The Gathering, has been displayed in the window of the Chuck Jones Gallery in San Diego, and it has been turning heads. Inevitably it has also been sending some folks off the deep end.

“Most people think it's fun and amusing, but 5% are pulling their hair out,” says Mike Dicken, national sales director for the gallery, of the people calling for the paintings removal.

If these people had any idea how often the Last Supper was parodied they wouldn't get so worked up. Or they would freak out completely — here's 50 more versions to send them over the edge.

“Chuck Jones was the absolute master in using cartoon characters to communicate the issues we deal with in life,” Tarnowski told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “We all resonate with these characters.

In the Looney Tunes universe, I can see why Tarnowski would choose Bugs as the Christ figure and Fudd as his Judas works, seeing as he was always trying to kill him and everything. One commentator suggested Daffy would be a better choice. I can see that.

The Disciples (l-r): Henery Hawk, Wile E. Coyote, Junior Bear, Elmer Fudd as Judas, the Grinch, the Road Runner, Bugs Bunny as Jesus, Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian, Marc Anthony, Pepe Le Pew, Gossamer, Porky Pig

Do Shepherds Dream of LED Sheep?

A group of shepherds from Wales outfitted their flock with LED covered vests and head out to hills with their border collies to create some art and play a game of pong. Sweet, Extreme Shepherding! It goes to show that I'm not the only one skillful time-wasting abilities.

These shepherds have also managed to update their profession, which really hasn't had much representation in pop culture. Recently we've had the gay cowboy shepherds of Brokeback Mountain and The Good Shepherd, which was neither good nor had anything to do with shepherds. Here are three of the best shepherd moments:
