Millions & Billions & Trillions Of Cats

OK, maybe not that many (h/t to the wonderful children's book Millions of Cats), but 79 cats from pop culture, including my favourites Bill the Cat (Ack! Thbbft!), Catbert and Hobbes.

BBC's Sherlock Characters Interrogate Internet Cats

I don't know anything about the BBC show Sherlock, but I do love internet cats, especially when they are all bunched together. Thanks Tumblr, for bringing reapersun to my attention.

LOLcat Taxonomy

LOLcats have, apparently, grown into their own species. T-shirt scientist Kari Fry breaks down the genus.

The Catastic 4

Now you know what the Fantastic Four would look like if they were cats, because obviously you were wondering. The Catastic 4 by pop artist Mike Maihack. (From Topless Robot's The 25 Best and Most Adorable #MRVLCATS)

Wil Wheaton And The Unicorn Kitteh Of Death!

Sometimes interweb culture gets so convoluted that it takes a serious amount of searching just to understand what is in a picture, let alone trying to explain why. Take, as a random example, above picture of Wil Wheaton riding a winged, unicorn kitten, wearing a clown shirt while fighting author John Scalzi as an orc, by artist Jeff Zugale.

Luckily the why is up to you: "So, here’s the plan: You write a 400 to 2,000 word fanfic about the picture above. Come at it from any angle you like to explain, illuminate or otherwise bring to life what’s going on in the picture above. Our only request is NO slash fanfic (please). But other than that, knock yourself out." (Link via Neatogeek)

I'm pleased to see OMG Cat becoming a meme and I look forward to many more. I was getting sick of that Trolololo guy.

A Clockwork Mice

Cute little mice and bunnies can make scenes of violence and horror seem so damn adorable! These Richard Scarry-esque rodents make Clockwork Orange, Nightmare on Elm Street, Silence of the Lambs and The Exorcist as safe as bedtime stories. I could send my kid to daycare in them, right? I Can Has History

This is only a small segment of I Can Has History, a ridiculously large LOLcats family tree and includes a couple of my faves, Invisible Sandwich Cat and Invisible Bike Cat. If you know some that are missing, you spend way to much time on the interweb, and I don't say that lightly. (Link via Urlesque)

Update: Seems the server is down or all the sites linking to it crashed it. I mean real sites, not me. I'll check every so often and send out on Twitter if/when it comes back.

Play This Meme Off, Keyboard Cat

UPDATE: Threadless has rushed this shirt to print. Now, will I actually wear it?

In the offhand chance you don't waste as much time on the interwebs as I do and haven't seen this mashup of Keyboard Cat and the 3 Wolf Moon t-shirt, consider your mind blown. From Threadless designer Oxen.

Keyboard Cat: You Make My Dreams Come True

Even though I spend in a inordinate amount of time online, some memes still escape me. This week I was introduced to Keyboard Cat, who plays off people off as they fail, for some reason.

Anyway, this one mashes up some strange Helen Hunt anti-drug after school special and then morphs into a Hall & Oates video. Again, not sure why, but it really doesn't matter. It's just too weird not to share. (Link via Urlesque)

Lots of Good Fun That Is Funny

Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat is 1626 words in length and uses a total vocabulary of 236 words, Theodore Seuss Geisel's response to a 1954 Life article which criticized American school primers as intensely boring, unchallenging to readers and responsible for causing harm to children's literacy. And here it is in a snazzy Wordle word cloud, courtesy of The Journal of Cartoon Over-analyzations. They've created Wordles of four other Seuss classics as well. Check 'em out.

I can't go a night without reading Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, There's a Wocket in My Pocket, Oh, the Thinks You Can Think! or One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish as Tristan has become hooked on the good doctor. I love it. (Link via culture kills and The Afterword)

Teh Lolcats Theme Song

Did the Lolcats need a theme song? Do we need lolcats? Silly question, needs got nothing to do with it! You will want to look away, but you won't be able to. How nobody thought to use The Cure's Lovecats before, I don't know. Robert Smith must be rolling in his grave.

From the twisted minds at rathergood.com. I would have used their embed, but autoplay of this song isn't something that anyone should be subjected to.

The Cat Came Back

The National Film Board of Canada put over 700 films, clips and trailers online last week as a way to mark its 70th anniversary and, frankly, join this century.

The archive is searchable and, even better, the films can be embeded. Cool! So I immediately searched out Cordell Barker's 1998, Oscar-nominated short film, The Cat Came Back.

What a great idea. This should open up a lot of great art to a whole new audience. Bravo, NFB.
