Dynamic Duo: Calvin and Hobbes

Because they are the imaginary friends we deserve, and the ones we need right now. (From Kyle Latino, which it took me ages to discover after falling down the Tumblr hole of no credits. But thanks to Blackadder for surfacing it.)

A Dimension Not Only Of Sight And Sound

You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop, the Twilight Zone!

A Twilight Zone ABC, Dave Perillo's piece for Gallery 1988's tribute to the classic sci-fi show. I can't wait to see the whole show.

He made them a sugary offering they couldn't refuse. Breakfast with artist Dave MacDowell means sex, drugs and rock and roll as well as major sugar addictions and twisted mascots. Yup, it's the best meal of the day!

Lost And Found: Oceanic Flight 815

So that's where all our stuff went! If you like people starring at your chest for hours on end, this is the Lost mosaic t-shirt for you.

“The design is a tribute to the very visual nature of the show — stark black and white, physical conflict (gun beats knife, smoke monster beats gun!) and the physical items that in many cases tie a character to his/her checkered past — Charlie’s Drive Shaft ring, Kate’s toy plane, Sawyer’s letter,” 108 Objects From Flight 815 designer Nathan Pyle told The Underwire.

Geek Menagerie: Toronto Comic Arts Festival

I had a great time at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival on Saturday and I can't believe that I hadn't been before. I came home with a bag full of stuff (more on that later) and met a few of my favourite pop artists like Brandon Bird whose Elysium is above.

I had a great chat with Scott Campbell (above, Picnic With The Draculas) and found out that he is going to be having a show at Gallery 1988 with Olly Moss, which came up because I was wearing Moss' Spoilt tee.

I also got to see the real life version of the Time Machine poster from Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics. There were plenty of others so if are in Toronto the show is on again today. Check it out.

Never Mind The Sex Pistols Saturday Morning Cartoon

"What if the Sex Pistols had a cartoon in 70's produced by Hanna Barbera?" If you're illustrator Dave Perillo you don't have to wonder, you can just draw it. Pretty vacant? Hardly.  And the British punks had a companion show with the Ramones.

Perillo: "They could drive around and solve mysteries and argue with each other, they'd even have a scrappy alley cat sidekick named Bonzo." I only wish they existed.

Ferris Bueller’s Social Media Day Off

Someone has reenacted Ferris Bueller’s Day Off via Twitter and twitpic and social media upstart du jour Foursquare. Why? Who knows, it's the interweb. Funny though. "Bueller?… Bueller?… Bueller?" (TechChrunch via Urlesque)

Something Strange, In Your Beverage...

I suppose that is one way to rid of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, but how big of a mug would it have to be? How do you heat it? What if it breaks? There'd be a tsunami of hot chocolate coursing through New York. No, no, exploding it with proton packs was clearly the sensible way to go. And yes, these are the kinds of things I think about. (One day left to vote for Staffell's tee, link via Shirtoid.)

Update: This post is winner of the Pageant of the Transmundane, Week 52. Thanks MC!

Tintin Vs. Predator

"But I must warn you, amigo: we are not the only killers in this forest. Legend tells of an invisible beast who hunts men like cheap candy! He is called THE PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER GHOST... which, I discover, sounds not good en Iglés."

Tintin skinned alive? I'd read that. The rest of those books could be sooo dull. (Jesse Hamm via Periscope Studio via A.G. Pasquella)

I'm Goin' Down To New New York, Gonna Have Myself A Time

A fine mashup of South Park and Futurama by deviantARTist MooseCake.

So Futurama is returning to Comedy Central on June 24 in the U.S. (woo hoo!) but there is no word about air dates in Canada or even what network will broadcast it. Anyone, a little help?

In the meantime, here is the first image of the reconstituted season, appropriately titled Rebirth.  (Links via Geekologie; Underwire)

The Nicolas Cage Adventure Set

Brandon Birds Nicolas Cage Adventure Set! The magic and wonder of one of the most dynamic figures of the 21st century comes home in this incredible playset. Peel and re-peel to create new scenes! The fate of Nicolas Cage is in your hands!

I could totally put together a script for Cage with this. It couldn't be any worse than Gone in Sixty Seconds. On a related note, I hope to see Brandon Bird and 200 other comic artists this weekend at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. It's going to be geektacular!

Great Cartoon Character Or The Greatest Cartoon Character?

"Lisa, if the Bible has taught us nothing else -- and it hasn't -- it's that girls should stick to girl's sports, such as hot oil wrestling and foxy boxing and such and such." — Homer Simpson

This is Ryan Dunlavey's illustration for Wizard Magazine's The 100 Greatest Cartoon Characters. While the article doesn't exist online, clearly Homer lords over all — as evidenced by Dunlavey's take on Gustav Dore's Moses.
